Since its launch in June 2000, hundreds of thousands of mums (and a fair few dads too) have swapped answers, recommendations and war stories on Mumsnet.com. They have debated the pros and cons of organic baby food, fretted over whether or not to use dummies - and how to wean children off them - shared breast-feeding tips, agonised over the best nursery schools, helped each other through the upheavals of returning to work and swapped tips on anything from feuding siblings, to mysterious illnesses. Pregnancy the Mumsnet Guide, is packed full of the advice, wisdom, reassurance and down-to-earth humour of these many many parents, distilled and presented in a way that is both accessible and authoritative. From hormones to hypnobirthing, stretch marks to swollen ankles, birth plans to births-not-so-planned, and all the jitters and joys in between, Pregnancy: The Mumsnet Guide is the essential, comprehensive and compassionate birthing bible for every parent-to-be. This is the indispensable guide from the frontline of parenting.

If you have an embarrassing child who bursts into friends' houses announcing 'It stinks in here' or shouts 'why is that man so fat?' on the bus (and not a spooky child who replaces felt-tip lids and enjoys dusting) then this book is for you. Self-confessed imperfect mum Fiona Gibson blends her own hilarious tales of raising three children with anecdotes and nuggets of advice from 300 fellow parents who admit they too get things wrong occasionally. Stories and tips cover a huge range of parenting dilemmas, from 'what to do if your child has a screaming, plank-rigid wobbler in M&S, and everyone's giving you Bad Parent looks' and 'how to handle a foul-mouthed monster obsessed with the toilet parts of horses' to 'sex: should you make the effort or just not bother?'. Above all, this funny, refreshingly honest look at being a real-life mum will come as a welcome reminder that yours is not the only family who can't go to Ikea without tears, tantrums and the threat of divorce...

Henry, archdeacon of Huntingdon, England (ca 1088-ca 1154) has been admired for centuries as the author of the monumental Historia Anglorum. The recent discovery of the Anglicanus ortus opens a new window onto this important English author as well as onto the uses of poetry and the knowledge of medicine in medieval England. Written entirely in Latin verse, the Anglicanus ortus describes the medicinal uses of 160 different herbs, spices, and vegetables. Henry drew on centuries of learned medicine to compose this work, employing the medical knowledge of ancient authors like Pliny the Elder and Dioscorides and of medieval scholars like Walahfrid Strabo, Macer Floridus and Constantine the African. This critical edition is based on the five extant manuscripts and includes a complete English translation on facing pages and a commentary on every poem. An extensive introduction describes the manuscript witnesses in detail, examines Henry's poetic skill and use of sources, and establishes the place of the Anglicanus ortus in a pivotal era in the history of medicine and natural philosophy.
